The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is encouraging saltwater anglers to participate in the state’s Marine Recreational Angler Records Program, which recognizes outstanding catches from New York’s marine waters.
The program includes state records for the heaviest fish of qualifying species as well as annual awards for the longest fish and blue crabs entered into the program. From offshore waters to the surf, anglers who believe they have landed a record-worthy catch are encouraged to review the program’s rules, qualifying species and entry requirements.
The DEC also reminds anglers that anyone fishing New York’s Marine and Coastal District waters, or targeting migratory fish of the sea in the Hudson River and its tributaries, must be enrolled in the no-fee Recreational Marine Fishing Registry. Enrollment is available online, by phone at 1-866-933-2257 (option 2), or through a license-issuing agent.
