NJ Outdoor Workshops This Week For Women & Veterans

The New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife (Division) is offering two hybrid surf fishing workshops, one for women 18 years and older, and one for military veterans. Join surf fishing instructors in a virtual meeting to learn the basics of surf fishing, and then put what you learned into practice when you hit the beach on Saturday, May 8 at Island Beach State Park to try your hand at fishing the surf.

The Women’s Surf Fishing Workshop is part of the Division’s Outdoor Women of NJ Program and is designed to provide women 18 years of age or older with a welcoming environment in which to learn outdoor skills.  Registered participants will meet up on May 4 at 6:30 p.m. on GoToMeeting for an interactive presentation to get introduced to the sport of surf fishing. This virtual portion will cover how to read the beach, equipment, live and artificial baits, species to target as well as regulations.

The in-person portion of the workshop will be held at Island Beach State Park in Seaside Park on May 8 from noon until 3 p.m. to try your hand at fishing the surf. All bait, tackle and equipment will be provided.

The Veteran’s Surf Fishing Workshop is part of the Division’s Outdoor Program workshops which are designed to provide veterans with a welcoming environment in which to learn outdoor skills. These workshops are for veterans who are newcomers to the outdoors, outdoor enthusiasts who want to learn new skills, or wish to network with other veterans who are outdoor enthusiasts.
