Product Profile: Furuno TZT9F Hybrid Multi-Function Display

Furuno

Joining her three bigger sisters (the 12-, 16- and 19-inch MFDs) as the most compact member of Furuno’s award-winning TZtouch3 series of multi-function displays, the new TZT9F is sure to be of interest to many Fisherman readers looking for a compact, easy-to-mount, and state-of-the-art marine navigator and fish finder, with the flexibility to do much more.

Introduced in November 2020, the TZT9F is a new, smaller MFD that packs the power of NavNet TZtouch3 into a 9-inch IPS display, suitable for smaller helms, fly bridges and second stations. Similar to the popular 12-inch TZT12F, the Hybrid Control TZT9F includes a multi touch display with an integrated control panel that features Furuno’s intuitive RotoKey and dedicated physical buttons. A powerful quad-core processor takes NavNet’s TimeZero technology to the next level, offering 4-way split-screen displays and lightning-fast response time. Furuno has engineered the NavNet TZtouch3 to be one of the easiest MFDs to operate with edge-swiping that makes finding what you need a breeze. The TZT9F allows users to view or hide navigation data, see all shortcuts, view layer options, or access Quick Pages (custom screen configurations) quickly and easily. A single tap selects most options, so you’re never more than a swipe and tap away from the most commonly accessed features.

The TZT9F includes a built-in 1kW, dual-channel TruEcho CHIRP Fish Finder. TruEcho CHIRP is designed to operate across a wide range of frequencies utilizing a broadband transducer, delivering significant advantages in signal clarity and target definition. Due to the constant sweeping of frequencies, TruEcho CHIRP is capable of gathering more and higher-quality data than traditional Fish Finders. For those looking for a higher-power CHIRP Fish Finder, Furuno has made it possible to pump up the power of TruEcho CHIRP by interfacing the Deep Impact black box to the internal Fish Finder. Deep Impact boosts power to either a 2 kW or 3 kW CHIRP Fish Finder (depending on the transducer that is selected), ensuring that fish and bottom echoes come back sharp and clear at greater depths. Users also have the option to add Furuno’s optional DFF3D Multi-Beam wide-angle sonar module. Alternatively, the TFT9F’s built-in Fish Finder is capable of outputting a traditional CW signal for those who prefer the industry-standard 50/200 kHz interpretation of what is between your boat and the bottom.

Two new recent features added to TZtouch3 are Fish-It and Drift-It are designed to save anglers time and fuel while maximizing their catch. Tapping on a location on the chart, such as a pinnacle, wreck, charted artificial reef, or even a hot fishing spot on the Fish Finder or DFF3D Multi-Beam Sonar screen, creates a temporary “fishing go-to point.” Dynamic range rings, a course line between the point and the boat, and a temporary track line are created, and a Fish-It data bar with distance and bearing to the point as well as your SOG and COG appears along the top of the display. Your Fish-It spot stays active until you tap Stop on the data bar.

Once a Fish-It spot is active, the operator will have the option to activate Drift-It. This exciting new feature will automatically create a starting point from where the vessel will drift directly over your Fish-it spot. The operator can select a 3-minute, 5-minute, or even a 20-minute drift, and all that is required is to navigate to that spot to allow the vessel to drift over the Fish-it location. This game-changing technology for anglers is found only on Furuno’s NavNet TZtouch3 MFDs.

System Flexibility

The TZT9F allows mariners to customize their helm to build the perfect navigation suite with DRS Radars, both built-in and optional black box Fish Finder selections, Multi Beam Sonar, AIS and VHF, NavPilot Autopilots, Satellite Compasses, along with multiple weather options. Furuno’s power-packed NXT Solid-State Doppler Radars deliver high-powered, state-of-the-art Radar features to TZtouch3. Functions such as Fast Target Tracking, Furuno’s advanced Bird Mode, Rain Mode, and Target Analyzer, where dangerous Radar targets appear in red, alert navigators to the current situation at-a-glance. A wide selection of dome and open array models in both magnetron and solid-state configurations ensures there is a radar model to meet the needs of every vessel.

MapMedia Raster and Vector Chart Library

TZtouch3 owners can freely choose the charts that fit their individual needs. Easily select raster, vector or fishing charts, MapMedia brings an authentic vector and raster chart library to your NavNet TZtouch3. Both C-MAP and Datacore by Navionics vector cartography are optional charts that can be easily unlocked. MapMedia cartography integrates cutting-edge algorithms with high resolution image processing techniques to deliver a fusion of digital navigation charts and satellite photography.

Satellite photography is included in the MapMedia raster and vector charts, simply called Satellite PhotoFusion. Land areas (zero depth) are completely opaque, displayed as satellite photos on the chart. As the depth increases, the satellite image is merged with the chart data to provide you with added detail on seabed areas in shallow water without losing vital chart information. Finally, CMOR’s high-resolution, shaded-relief bathymetric bottom images help navigators identify suitable locations for fishing and diving.
