Photo Gallery December 2022 by Jim Hutchinson, Jr. Raciel Gonzalez caught several stripers in Mantoloking back in October, most over 40 inches including this 45-incher while pedaling a Hobie Outback. Bill Reilly checked in with us in the fall during a good weather window when he and his crew including Joe Behr secured a five-man limit at the East Elbow aboard the Leprechaun. Both chunks and jigs found tuna success. After a quick visit to the Tackle Box with his dad, 15-year-old Jason Sotomayor caught and released a personal best 48-inch striper at Sandy Hook using bunker chunk on a size 6 circle hook. Ryan Jacob and buddies boated and released six fish over 41 inches – on up to a monster 51-incher – while trolling the back of Raritan Bay this past fall aboard his 22′ Key West. Ron Stewart said his wife Sandy (married 25 years) caught this nice tautog in just 6 feet of water on the Raritan using green crabs they picked up at Dockside Bait and Tackle. Steve Urbano said he walked the Monmouth County beaches at night for hours one last fall for two schoolie stripers, telling us by email “Now I remember why I got the boat.” Nutley’s Joe Casale fished live eel at night along the Navesink for seven hours one night this past fall before his 3/0 circle hook buttoned up to a good striper taping out at just over 50 inches. David Dzwonkowski caught and released this 44-inch striper in the Monmouth County surf back on October 9 while tossing a 7-inch mullet-colored Hydro Minnow. The folks from Eyes on First Ave. in Atlantic Highlands found great striped bass action on the Little Hawk back in November, catching a releasing a mess of fish while also bringing a few “slots” home for the table. Brian Berry picked up this monster tautog just before the bag limits were upped to five fish back in November, fishing with Howard Owens. Capt. Robert Ivanicki and crew caught this striper just north of Spring Lake while dragging a mojo in 35 feet of water. Sam Zeilman and crew found great action on the snags with porgies to 3-1/2 pounds (and a whole lot of variety) while fishing aboard the Cape May based Findictive Fishing. Barnegat’s Dennis Leikauskas won the October 19th pool for black sea bass aboard the Mi-Jo II; it was a tough pick on the day, but Dennis stuck it out for the win! Mike Rada fished with Lou Grazioso and found fantastic catch and release action on Raritan Bay. Matt “Matty Fish” Loiselle found some drag screaming, rod bending albie action this past fall tossing Epoxy jigs and Deadly Dicks near the reef and rocks off the Jersey Shore where these fat alberts had set up. Mickey Abraham caught these slot stripers livelining bunker with buddies aboard the Fish-Elbee out of the Highlands on Raritan Bay. Karl Celins found an awesome chunk bite on big stripers this past fall, with seven fish total, all caught and safely released. Janelle Hevener emailed in late fall letting us know about the great fluke and sea bass action she found during 2022.
