What a year it has been for the weakfish! Many anglers up here in the ‘north country’ refer to these rare, colorful sea trout as unicorns because we see them so infrequently. But, 2021 has been the year of the weakfish, especially on Long Island and throughout upper Narragansett Bay. Weakfish are known to be highly cyclical and many local anglers are hopeful that they are back on the upswing. Only time will tell us for sure, but there’s a big contingent of northeast anglers that have crossed weakfish off of their bucket lists in 2021. Did you catch yours yet?
