Product Spotlight: Okuma ITX Carbon Spinning Reel

ITX

If someone asked me what makes an ideal spinning reel, the simple answer would be that it’s lightweight, durable and performs well when casting lures and reeling in fish. The Okuma ITX Carbon spinning reel is all that wrapped up into one product.

The rigid C-40X carbon body, side plates and rotor not only make this reel extra light, they also ensure that it is durable. While weight and strength do play a tremendous part in what the avid angler looks for in a fishing reel, another key attribute that a good spinning reel must have is a reliable drag. And this reel does not lack in that department. The Multi-disc, carbon fiber drag system on this reel ensures that when the big one decides to peel some line off the spool, it won’t skip a beat. Combine that with a Hydro Block gasket that keeps water out and you have yourself an extremely reliable reel. A Quick-Set anti-reverse roller bearing fortifies the effectiveness of the smooth drag while the slow oscillation system helps with near-perfect line lay. To add to the comfort end of this reel, it comes out of the box with Traction Grip Technology that maintains your grip when the handle gets wet.

itxOkuma offers this reel in a fast and slow version. The high speed version is a great choice for any situation where you need to reel extra fast. The low-speed version is intended for bottom fishing or powerful species that demand more cranking power.

The ITX Carbon spinning reel is available in four sizes from 1000 to 4000. The other nice thing about these smaller sizes is that they appeal to both fresh and saltwater. You can use a 1000 for targeting trout in your local pond or you can step up to 2500 for light inshore fluke fishing or even largemouth bass fishing. If stripers or bluefish are your target, try out the 4000 with small topwater lures or swim shads. This light tackle beast stays true to being light and yet will still provide you with the characteristics of a much heavier, overbuilt reel.
