Whether you fish from a boat or off the shore, this box is a must-have.

A product with one great use is fantastic in itself, but something with several benefits makes it a must-have. When I first laid eyes on the Simms Open Water Tactical Box, I had one use in mind—surfcasting. Being a surf fisherman for many years, the storage room and tubes make this box perfect to keep in the back of your car or truck for the quick swapping or restocking of plugs. This box from Simms does that quite well, it holds a slew of plugs, terminal tackle, bucktails, and jigs. As the season progressed, I found another use for this versatile bag.

I was invited out on several boat fishing trips for stripers, bluefish, sea bass, porgies, and fluke over the past few months. And on some trips, I was targeting all these species on the same outing. Going after several species meant I had to pack a sufficient amount of tackle in one compact bag. Well, the Simms Open Water Tactical Box gave me more than ample room to cover all the bases in one bag, and it’s easy to carry, thanks to the comfortable carrying handle.

simms-openThe segmented parts of this box allow me to locate tackle for any situation quickly. Tackle storage options include four 12- by 3-inch tubes and room for Plano 3600 and 3700 tackle boxes. It also features customizable internal dividers with hanging hook slots for convenient drying and storage. A see-through zipper pouch on the inside flap is perfect for quickly identifying the several spools of leader material I always carry. In additional to all this internal storage there is a Vecro pouch on the outside that you can use to stow anything you need quick access to like pliers or bags of soft plastics and hooks. This bag certainly does not lack options!

One way I like to set my bag up is to put the more prominent casting plugs in the included tubes, go-to jigs on the hook hangers, and all my other terminal tackle, plus extra jigs in the Plano boxes that I bought separately. This box even has additional room to fit pliers, a fillet knife, and other tools I find necessary to have on the boat or beach. The possibilities are endless! The Open Water Tactical Box retails for $249.95. To check them out visit simmsfishing.com.
