And another Jersey Shore fluke season is in the books!

As excited as I get in the days leading up to the start to another summer flounder season at the Jersey Shore, it’s even tougher to see it come to an end.  Not long ago I shared the final fluke photo I’d received of the ’23 season in my weekly video fishing forecast on YouTube (Courtney Goss’s beached fluke from Island Beach on the afternoon of September 27th which also made the cover); as we kick back and wait for the rocket scientists at NOAA (sorry, you’re right, the rocket scientists are at NASA, not NOAA) to determine what our start and end date will be in ’24, here are a few more of the fluke photos I received from readers in the latter part of the summer run.

Mark Westcott hit the Miss Barnegat Light in late August and caught this 31-inch, 11-pound doormat while using a bucktail and pink Gulp.

Mark DePrizio won the August 12th pool aboard Big Mohawk out of Belmar by using a 2-ounce bucktail tipped with a 6-inch salmon Gulp grub on a Jigging World Onyx and Daiwa BG3500 combo.

No boat? No problem! Fluking on the beach can be highly effective, especially in the second half of summer, as David Shriqui shows with this 25-incher at Long Branch on peanut bunker.

Dave Schwanbeck came down from Willow Grove, PA in midsummer and hopped aboard Capt. Steve Spinelli’s Skylarker out of Belmar for this 6-1/2-pound fluke.

“My dad took my 15-year-old son out on his friend’s boat called Quality Time and they had the best day,” writes Christen Brown of this family fluke day, reminding others “Life is short so spend time with the ones you love.”
