The Riptide Striper Derby will get underway on Thursday, September 4 and runs through Sunday, December 14. This annual surf tournament on the beaches of Brigantine with prizes for striped bass, bluefish, kingfish and tautog.
A picture must be taken of the angler and the fish, with cash prizes of $300, $200 and $250 awarded for three heaviest bluefish, kingfish and tautog, while top three striped bass of the tournament will win $500, $300 and $150. All qualifying fish must be caught on the island of Brigantine and accessible to all, and must be of legal New Jersey size (no slot stripers).
There is driving on the beaches allowed by day from September 4 to 14 (only at night from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m.). Beginning on September 15 weekday driving can take place, through driving is prohibited on weekend days from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in September. As of October 1, 24/7 beach driving access is underway.
