The Striped Bass Study Forges On!

THE-STRIPED-BASS-STUDY-FORGES-ON

We at The Fisherman Magazine are excited to share a big update regarding the ongoing mission of the Northeast Striped Bass Study. While logistical hurdles ultimately prevented us from hosting our traditional StriperQuest event alongside our partners at Gray Fishtag Research this year, the spirit of the quest is still very much alive. We refused to kill all the momentum we’ve built up over the last eight years, and we are proud to announce that the critical work of tracking and protecting our premier coastal gamefish continues at full throttle.

The action kicked off in spectacular fashion on May 14th right in the heart of the Raritan. In a display of true angling precision, Captain Rob Radlof put us exactly where we needed to be aboard his Conch 27. It was there that Chris Bishop of Yo-Zuri Lures successfully deployed a high-tech MiniPAT satellite tracking device into a magnificent 44-inch jumbo striped bass. This “post-spawn cow,” likely a heavyweight traveler from the Hudson River, represents a vital data point in our understanding of migratory patterns. Adding to the excitement, this brute was fooled by a 7-1/2-inch Yo-Zuri Hydro Twitchbait—an amazing new lure that hasn’t even hit the shelves, though you can expect it to crash plug bags later this summer. We are all so proud to lead this charge, ensuring that while our big event may have paused, the science and the passion behind the Northeast Striped Bass Study never skipped a beat. Keep your eyes on these pages for more updates as this satellite journey unfolds.
