Browns Reef, as it’s referred to by Branford bottom fishing regulars, is actually a cluster of individual structures, each with its own name and navigational aid, but often collectively known as “Browns.”

It doesn’t require much imagination to guess how Long Sand Shoal earned its descriptive name. Stretching 6 miles from its east-end bell to its west-end gong, Long Sand Shoal spans the towns of Old Saybrook and Westbrook, Connecticut, and its midpoint rests 1-1/2 miles south of Cornfield Point.
Located on the north shore of Long Island, between Shoreham to the west and Baiting Hollow to the east, the Herod Point Shoal is approximately a 4.5-mile stretch of fishing paradise that produces throughout the season.
Raritan Bay holds plenty of hot spots for the August run of doormats, but one that falls a little under the radar is the Chapel Hill Channel.

All I know is that when I want to target doormat fluke during the summer months, I immediately head to the Elberon Rocks.
