April is finally here, and we can confidently leave the menacing winter of 2026 in the dust. Tog season opened across southern New England on April 1st and – as is almost always the case – Dustin Stevens notched the first photographic proof of a keeper in the region. Striped bass action continues to improve, schoolies are on the move in the western Sound and larger holdover fish are chasing herring in many backwaters. Freshwater guys have a plethora of options with largemouth bass and stocked trout topping the list. With Wachusett Reservoir opening this Saturday, another awesome option will be brought back into the fold for sweetwater casters. We’ve crossed the final threshold for spring fishing and things will only get better from here on out!
