With spring waging its annual war on winter, fisheries across New England are reacting accordingly. Most notably, the largemouth bass bite came roaring to life with the approach of our most recent low pressure system, and reports of excellent jerkbait fishing came in from open water anglers in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Look for the recent rains to kick holdover striper action into gear and, with the full moon now upon us, the first herring scouts should begin arriving in the region’s strongest runs. Rhody anglers, don’t forget that trout season closes today and your 2023 freshwater licenses expire today as well.
