Old Man Winter seems to be tightening his grip on local angling opportunities, but there are still viable options across the region. Rhode Island freshwater lakes are giving up good catches of Sebago salmon and when the weather allows, headboats like the Frances Fleet are getting on a fairly reliable cod bite. Massachusetts has seen its first safe ice in a month this week and some nice pike have be taken. At the same time trout and panfish continue to bite well for open water anglers on the Cape. In Connecticut, the Housatonic has slowed a little, but there are still plenty of striped bass being caught and the TMA’s are still putting out plenty of trout. February is right around the corner, but there are still plenty of ways to catch a fish.
