
It’s been a slow build throughout the month of June, but the bonito explosion reached epic proportions this week across much of the Rhode Island coast. Kayakers seem to be leading the charge, but everyone is getting in on the action. The recent heat wave sent bay and estuary temperatures soaring, chasing out many of the stripers that remained. The best striped bass fishing is now ‘out front’ with Block Island taking its rightful place as the pinnacle destination for summertime trophies. Fluking continues to overachieve in all three southern New England states, with Nantucket Shoals – predictably – putting out the biggest doormats in the region
