It feels great to say that open water fishing is back from the Cape through Rhode Island and along the southern half of Connecticut. As awesome as this is, it also means that ice fishermen need to travel hours north, or risk stepping into a situation they’re likely to regret. Catches this week heavily favored the freshwater angler, word is that the largemouth bass bite has been incredible, with fish taking Neds, jerkbaits and some big swimbaits. Stocked trout are also crushing on the Cape and in the stocked waterways of Connecticut. Holdover stripers are slowly reemerging, most anglers still describe the bite as a ‘grind’, but as soon as some herring show up, it will be game on! Don’t miss the CT Fishing & Outdoor Show at Mohegan Sun this weekend, we’ll look forward to seeing you there!
