Thanksgiving weekend holds a lot of promise across southern New England as enough reports of large blackfish have come in from Buzzards Bay to Western Long Island Sound that we are making the official declaration that “Black Friday” will be changed to “Blackfish Friday”. The fish are deep, typically between 60 and 80 feet, but double digit weights have been a fairly regular occurrence. Herring and mackerel schools have the bass all fired up along the South County beaches with rabid surfcasters salivating at the sight of diving gannets and praying that the fish push in tight. There have been several reports of 20-pound class stripers in hot pursuit. Freshwater fishing is also heating up in a hurry with bass, salmon, pickerel and trout all bending rods across the region. Take advantage of these extra days off, catch some fish! Happy Thanksgiving to all!
