The Thanksgiving holiday is a lot of things, but one thing every angler knows it to be is four days of work-free angling opportunity. And anglers have plenty to be thankful for. The blackfish bite has been red hot this week, with limits common and many double-digit fish being caught and released. Striper guys would be well advised to go “over the river and through the woods” to western Connecticut where the bite is best. Freshwater action is widespread, it’s been a solid week for both largemouth and smallmouth bass action that included a 7-pounder caught in Rhody. Stocked trout are smashing lures from Cape Ann to Cape Cod and clear to the New York border. And if you’d like to ride in relative luxury, the party boats fishing south of Block have been catching a variety of species, from tog and scup to sea bass and even a few bonito.
