The first nor’easter of the season has come and gone, and it was a doozy! But what the storm did to keep boaters off the water, it more than made up for in what surfcasters have experienced in the wake of the big blow. It turns out, the storm was exactly what we needed to finally kick the fall run into gear. The hot zones were the South County beaches and breachways, and the mouth of the Connecticut River, with lots of backwater action scattered throughout the region. Casters were treated to good action on stripers that ranged in size from schoolies to 30-plus pounds, with lots of 30- to 40-inch linesiders taking a wide range of lures. In the video you’ll see that we hadn’t yet gotten any albie reports after the blow, but as of Thursday morning some reports came in from Martha’s Vineyard and Narragansett Bay of confirmed catches, signaling the resumption of the 2026 albie run. Togging has picked right back up where it left off, setting the stage for a great weekend for the New England angler.
