The 2026 fluke season officially kicked off this week, although rough weather and stiff winds kept many anglers tied to the dock for opening day. Even so, anticipation remains high as fishermen settle into New York’s fluke season and prepare for calmer weather windows ahead. At the same time, striped bass action continues to improve across Long Island with strong reports coming in from the surf, bays, inlets, bridges, and charter boats. Topwater action is building in the back bays, surfcasters are connecting on darters, Mag Darters, and swimming plugs, while live bunker and trolling presentations are producing quality fish throughout the western end. This week’s forecast also features West End charter boat highlights, fresh reports from correspondents around the island, upcoming fishing events, and a look at what’s happening both inshore and offshore as the spring run continues to gain momentum.
