NMMA/MTA MEMBER WINS NJ CONGRESSIONAL PRIMARY

For Central Jersey anglers who’ve been wishing for a politician – one who knows his way around the cockpit of a Viking – you’ve got an option come November 8 in congressional district three!

On Tuesday, June 7, Robert Healey Jr. – Chairman of Viking Group, and member of both the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and Marine Trades Association of New Jersey (MTA/NJ) – won the republican primary for New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District. Healey will face incumbent Congressman Andy Kim in the general election on Tuesday, November 8.

“The MTA/NJ congratulates Bob Healey, Jr. for his primary victory, and is excited for his candidacy for Congress,” said MTA/NJ executive director Melissa Danko, who added “Bob carries on a long family tradition of giving back to society, while blazing his own trail of philanthropy and charity not only in the U.S., but in Africa where he has worked to provide crucial health care support to those in desperate need.”

“Aside from his corporate responsibilities, Robert Healey Jr.’s extensive philanthropic activities include Board positions on the Healey Education Foundation, which helps Catholic schools become self-sustaining while fostering the enrollment of children from low-income backgrounds, and the Gleneayre Equestrian Program, which helps children and teens overcome personal challenges through a love of horses,” NMMA said in recent press release.

The son of late Viking Yachts cofounder Robert Healey, Sr., Bob Jr. also established the Healey International Relief Foundation, to improve the quality of life of individuals and families in the war-torn country of Sierra Leone in West Africa through medical assistance, food banks, healthcare education, clean water, work programs for amputees and basic essentials for orphaned children so they can reach their full potential.

“Bob also works tirelessly to address the challenges that face our marine community,” said Danko, while adding “His contributions to the marine community, his international experience in charitable health care, and his reputation for working hard on many issues of public importance, make him the perfect person to represent our third district, tackle our nation’s toughest challenges, and work towards a brighter future for us all.”
