While fishing of the shore in Riverside, Long Beach, New York., with his dad, Joseph Landerer from JHooks Fishing Club hit the last hour of incoming tide off the surf, using a Joe Bags (chicken scratch) Swarter. They slammed Blues till their arms fell off. The one in the photo weighed in at 13-pounds which was Joseph’s personal best.

Shawn Bassarath Sr. hit the fluke grounds in the State Channel right when the season opened and nailed this 27-incher using light tackle aboard the Bay Pearl.

“Had about 15 to 20 slots and overs around Meadowbrook and Loop Parkways. Some with sea lice. Made for awesome fish tacos for Cinco de Mayo” is what John Gilbert told us about the May striper bite. He’s pictured with the one slot he kept for the table.

Ricky Martin came all the way to the island from Louisiana to get in on the spectacular spring striper bite in the Fire Island Inlet area. He has fish in and above the slot on a mix of Yo-Zuri Topknocks, NLBN 5-inch paddletails and live bunker.
