HOBIE-Passport

While touring the “coming soon” products at ICAST last month, Matt Broderick and I had a chance to get an up close and personal look at Hobie’s new Mirage Passport R Series of rotomolded pedal kayaks.  As we learned in Orlando, the best thing about this new Hobie launch is that you don’t have to wait until late fall or even 2023 to give this new member of the Hobie fleet a pedal.

Unveiled on July 19, the 2022 Mirage Passport 10.5 R and the Mirage Passport 12.0 R should be available now at authorized Hobie dealers at an introductory MSRP of $1,649 and $1,869 respectively.  Powered by MirageDrive with Glide Technology and Kick-Up Fins, the new R Series models can avoid obstacles with ease and navigate rocky or shallow waters thanks to the automatic retraction of Kick-Up Fins on impact and subsequent re-deployment once clear of the obstacle. With the rotomolded hull construction, available in Seagrass Green and Slate Blue, the new R models fuse a new sleek aesthetic with excellent performance and stability without sacrificing speed.

“Since 1950, Hobie has always strived to create fun, accessible experiences on the water,” said Kelley Woolsey, Hobie Vice President of Global Sales, Service, and Marketing.   Woolsey said the launch of the new Mirage Passport R Series kayaks fits in well with Hobie’s longtime mission to continually improve and update their product offerings to deliver the best experience available. “Hobie will always ensure that the highest quality products are available for kayakers of all experience to enjoy,” Woolsey added.  And of course, under $2K for MirageDrive technology and with Hobie’s legendary durability, the new line of Passport kayaks should make a big splash in local waters heading into the fall.

If price has been issue in making the switch from paddle to pedal power, give the Hobie Passport 10.5 or 12 models a closer look.  To find your local Hobie dealer, visit hobie.com/dealers. And keep an eye out for the New Product Spotlight video from Matt Broderick coming soon to TheFisherman.com.
