Surfcasters take note, Surfland Bait & Tackle, one of the stalwarts of the Northeast surfcasting community, has officially announced an important schedule update for its premier spring event. Their Surfcasting Demo Day has been moved forward to Saturday, May 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., originally slated for the following week, this new date offers the perfect window to gear up and make those final tweaks before the season kicks into high gear.
Surfland’s Demo Day is always a good time that carries the timeless feel you get when you walk through the hallowed doors of this historic shop. It’s not just a show or sale it’s a gathering of the surfcasting tribe in one of the longest-standing shops that caters to their kind. The shop will welcome a select lineup of local custom plug builders who will be on-site to showcase their latest work. Attendees can connect directly with the minds behind Guppy Lures, Lemire’s Plugworks, and Synker, with additional builders expected to be announced as the event approaches. This is a rare opportunity to secure top-tier, handcrafted wood lures while discussing building and fishing techniques with the builders themselves.
Beyond the specialized lures, the event serves as a high-performance “test drive” center on the sand. Located just steps from the shop, the beach will serve as a proving ground where anglers can test-cast a wide array of setups from industry leaders like St. Croix, Van Staal and Penn Reels, among others. With factory representatives on hand to offer technical guidance, casters can evaluate how different rod actions and reel power ratings complement their personal casting style in a real-world surf environment.
In addition to the hands-on gear testing, attendees will have a final opportunity to secure a vital piece of the surfcasting toolkit for free. This event marks the last chance in 2026 for anglers to receive a FREE pair of Danco Pliers simply by renewing their subscription to The Fisherman Magazine. How can you beat that? Attendees will also enjoy the chance to meet with members of the Plum Island Surfcasters and representatives from MassWildlife, makes the day a comprehensive resource for the local fishing community.
The event is free and open to the public at Surfland Bait & Tackle, 30 Plum Island Blvd., Newbury, MA. Between the exclusive in-store specials, the presence of top-tier plug builders, and the final call for our Danco Pliers giveaway, fishermen are encouraged to mark their calendars for the new May 9 date and arrive early to take full advantage of the day’s offerings.
