Yes! The spring transition has begun and open water angling opportunities are spreading like wildfire in southern New England. Many Cape ponds are now open, as are many along the immediate coast in Rhode Island, offering open water opportunities for a long list of species including stripers, largemouths, smallmouths, pickerel, panfish and trout. Head toward interior New England or up into the northern reaches of our region, and you will find safe ice and a percolating ice fishery for bass, panfish, pike and musky, like the 30-pounder shown above. We’re at that magical tipping point where you can fish however you want and each day brings even greater anticipation for the spring season ahead!
