The Fisherman Magazine Weekend Video Forecast 1/13/2022 – New England
The first real cold snap of the winter gripped the region this week covering many ponds and even tidal backwaters with a sheet of ice. Interior portions of southern New England are now seeing safe ice on many ponds, particularly smaller sheltered waters. Hardwater catches are on the rise, throughout interior Massachusetts and inland lakes and ponds in Rhody and Connecticut; at last check the Connecticut River coves were still not safe. Open water fishing is now relegated to the coastal ponds and Cape Cod. Cod catches continue to improve and many expect this cold snap to be the accelerant for a hot bite lasting through the second half of January.
