Cold Hands, Hot Stripers & Jersey Beaches

The thermometer may have taken a nosedive this week, but the striper action along the Monmouth and Ocean County beaches was still unseasonably hot through this past weekend. Quite a few surfcasters enjoyed double-digit catches this past Saturday and Sunday with bass popping up on bunker, herring and rainfish; the latest boat reports to TheFisherman.com had a body of good-sized stripers down off the Delaware Coast at Indian River Inlet taking mojos, but who knows where you might be able to find stripers in the days ahead, at least before the expected nor’easter hits the region late Sunday. A lot of anglers in the north/northwest portion of the Garden State are hoping to see a little hardwater action soon, with the Poconos being one great place to start looking this week. And of course, if you saw our online write-up – NJ Marine Fisheries Council: Poached Stripers, Empty Seats & Missing Packages – then be sure to check out this week’s full video forecast for a 90-second clip from last Thursday’s webinar wackiness and the initial reaction to a public hearing which turned into more of a public spectacle!
