The mild January continued this week and, as a result, local ice fishers are taking matters into their own hands and targeting their most beloved species – the northern pike – in open water. We’ve seen some nice catches come in over the past 10 days. Trout fishing continues to please anglers throughout southern New England, recent stockings have bolstered Rhode Island catches while reports from the Cape and the rivers of Connecticut continue to produce a steady stream of positive reports. Holdover striped bass catches fluctuate wildly depending on where you fish, but the Housatonic River action has remained hot all month long.
