Jumbo Blackfish, White Perch & Dead Whales
Astronomical seasons are based on the position of Earth in relation to the sun, whereas climatologists often use the “meteorological season” based on the annual temperature cycle. If it helps get you through the January doldrums, we’re officially past the midway point of the meteorological winter (it will end on March 1, the day back bay stripers reopen in the Garden State!) Blackfish action is picky at best though we do have a lady’s “record” to talk about; there’s also white perch in the mix which should take us into February. A show update heading into Pennsylvania and our Pocono Outdoors Report this weekend, while John Skinner lets us know about his three favorite artificial baits for Florida. Finally this week, what’s up with all the dead whales? NOAA Fisheries is looking into this “unusual mortality event,” but it can’t possibly have anything do with seismic testing and sonar research efforts off the Jersey Shore for wind development. Or does it?
