The Vineyard Derby kicked off with a surprise catch, a 6-foot tarpon was landed from the island surf last week by anglers Rich Mann and Tony Dagostino, marking the second confirmed New England tarpon in 2024. Albie action continues to frustrate local anglers, but a spark may be spreading into a flame in Long Island Sound. Big stripers are again piling onto Southwest Ledge and bottom fishing for tog, sea bass and some impressive cod has also attracted new interest this week. The tuna action has spread out a bit, but we’re still seeing lots of great catches from the offshore crowd.
