Captain Al Lorenzetti Passes Away

The Long Island fishing community is mourning the loss of Captain Al Lorenzetti, who passed away on May 12, 2026. A lifelong Great South Bay waterman, Lorenzetti developed a deep knowledge of striped bass fishing while fishing alongside his father from a young age. Widely respected for both his fishing ability and willingness to share information, Captain Al became known throughout the Northeast for his instructional fishing videos during the 1990s and later through the launch of SkimmerOutdoors.com in 1997. Over the years, he guided countless anglers aboard his 23-foot Mako “Skimmer,” including celebrities, business leaders and everyday fishermen looking to learn from one of Long Island’s most knowledgeable captains. Friends and fellow anglers continue to share memories of Lorenzetti’s contributions to the striped bass community and the sportfishing world as a whole.
