New York marine anglers should take note of several seasonal regulation changes that took effect September 1, along with an upcoming public hearing concerning Atlantic cod.
The recreational Atlantic cod season opened September 1, with a 23-inch minimum size, a five-fish possession limit and a season running through May 31.
The black sea bass possession limit also increased September 1. From September 1 through December 31, recreational anglers may keep six black sea bass per day, while the minimum size remains 16 inches.
Party and charter boat anglers also received an increase in the scup, or porgy, possession limit. From September 1 through October 31, anglers aboard licensed party and charter vessels may possess 40 scup per person. The minimum size for vessel-based anglers remains 11 inches.
Anglers should stay up to date on current regulations and any changes resulting from upcoming rulemaking before heading out this fall.
