Product Review: Flip Rocks - The Fisherman

Product Review: Flip Rocks

Flip RocksAs soon as I picked up these boots, I knew they were right up my alley. My first impression was that they weigh virtually nothing. This equates to much greater mobility. For a surfcaster like me this is extremely important when traversing the rocky terrain where gamefish like stripers are known to hideout. Slipping on these boots was very easy and the Velcro straps do a good job of  keeping them in place. Surprisingly these boots are quite comfortable unlike others on the market that have left my feet sore by the end of a trip.

The ultimate test for me was actually hopping on the rocks with the boots fitted with the G-Rex grip pads. These pads are removable and can be swapped out for several other types of soles, including felt. The pads are held in place by extremely strong Velcro and cannot be removed by hand. A flathead screwdriver needs to be used to remove them, which is a big plus. The last thing you want is an insert coming off while fishing. This has happened to me with other brands before. I was impressed with how well the stainless steel spikes gripped the rocks. Walking up and down the jetty the boots were very comfortable and not once did I feel like I was going to slip and fall. To take things to another level I searched for the slimiest and slipperiest rock I could find and stood on it. The stainless spikes dug right in and kept me in place.

They are mostly constructed of waterproof neoprene which will help keep my feet warm and dry when fishing in cold weather conditions, adding to the boots comfort factor. I’m giving this product the thumbs up. They meet all my checks and would make a fine addition to any shore fisherman’s gear. For more information go to www.fliprocks.com or call 203-807-0705.
