STRIPER SEASON OFFICIALLY OPENS
BELMONT FAMILY FISHING FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND
With the addition of the striper opener on the 15th, we can safely say the season is well underway here in New York. If you tuned into previous reports, you’d know the stripers have been here before the official opening date, and the bite has only been getting better and better. In addition to the better fishing on the North Shore spreading from west to east, the island’s South Shore is starting to see small bass infiltrate the Great South Bay docks and even some of the eastern back bays and bridges. Tog reports improved from last week, with fish up to 6 pounds hitting the scales. With warm temperatures on the horizon, we should see that bite only get better through the end of the month also. And let’s not forget the freshwater as well. This weekend is the Belmont Family Fishing Festival hosted by New York State Parks. The event will include many family-friendly festivities and a freshly stocked lake with plenty of trout to be caught.
