The one that’s beating the heat right now is the bay fluke bite along the South Shore of the island. Solid catches of up to 12 pounds have been reported from inside of the bays, along with plenty of other legal-sized fish. The striper bite on the eastern end of the island in Montauk and Orient was once again productive, with fish of all sizes caught. Tuna seemed to have made a run deep to the offshore grounds, but there have been rumblings of a few still being caught closer to home, inshore. The usual porgies are chewing in the Sound and some weakfish are still being landed inside Peconic Bay. We bring you another Open Boat episode this week on surf fluke fishing for beginners and the results from last Sunday’s Duke of Fluke tournament.
