Memorial Day weekend is upon us and first and foremost, a moment should be given to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure that we have the freedoms that we have today. This weekend should kickoff the boating season around the island, with most going in the water. And just in time for most boats going in is several species cooperating around the island. Along the South Shore we have bluefish and bass in the bays with some good fluke fishing along the entire back bay stretch. Moving to the East End, bass, blues, weaks and porgies have all moved into the Peconics. Montauk is seeing a good shot of bass and blues as well. Back on the Sound, bass have been cooperating as well with some good fluke fishing popping up. Porgies are also keeping things interesting on the northern side of the island as well. If you are planning on taking the boat out this weekend, be safe on the water and be sure to remember why we have the ability to enjoy such things as fishing.
