TOG SEASON OPENS WITH A BANG

Blackfishing in Long Island Sound opened on a high note Sunday for those who took advantage of the weekend opening. Some very good catches were made by boats sailing out of Orient, and there were even a few good catches made by shore anglers along the North Fork. Unfortunately, gale force winds out of the east wiped out Monday and Tuesday. The season for the rest of the Island opens today, Thursday, October 15th with a 4 fish bag. The bag limit on the North Shore is three fish per angler, and the size limit for tog is 16 inches across the board.

The fall striper run continued unabated at the tip of both forks until the east winds made for unfishable conditions. Montauk was seeing blitz-like fishing in the surf and boats, while the Race, Plum Gut and the Sluiceway were yielding lots of small and mid-size stripers and big blues.
