Amidst a noticeable uptick in large blackfish this week, a pending Rhode Island record was decked aboard Newport Sportfishing Charters, led by Capt. Robbie Taylor and landed by angler, Vinny Simms, Jr. We also saw a major influx of teen-sized bluefish at Block Island. Striper action remains steady throughout most of the region, slot and ‘near slot’ fish are the norm, larger bass have been scarce. As we approach the early-November new moon, look for stripers to ramp up their feeding and migrate with greater urgency; in other words, get out there and take advantage!
