“The west is the best,” is a line from a Doors song called The End, but in terms of the W/NW winds on Tuesday of this week it seems to be just the beginning of the fall striper run along the beaches of the Jersey Shore. Drive the beaches with us this week as striped bass invade the shoreline piling on bunker schools pinned tight against the sand. We have tips on what to throw in an Open Boat chat with surfcaster Shell E. Caris, with an appeal from the U.S. Army Corps to help find a lost buoy (perhaps they’d like to know where their lost replenishment sand has gone?) We’ll run through the December edition of The Fisherman out this week, with a look at the Dream Boat leaderboard, and wreck fishing opportunities through the end of the season with tautog, black sea bass and porgies. The Pocono Outdoors Guy has his weekly freshwater update with a sneak peek at fishing in Costa Rica, wrapping up the week with local news/events and a video clip of bunker corralled in tight to the beach; it’s Natty Geo days again as the surf run finally catches fire.
