The 10th Annual Play HOOK-e Veterans, Children and Active-Duty Military Fishing Day will be held on Saturday, August 22 at Lake Julianna, Ponderosa Estates Farm in Millstone, NJ. Celebrating a decade of service, the event honors the program’s long-standing mission of supporting post-traumatic stress disorder veterans, active-duty military personnel, and disabled children through a free day of fishing, fellowship, and family-centered outdoor activities.
Since its founding in 2017, Play HOOK-e has grown into a meaningful multigenerational tradition that promotes healing, mentorship, and community connection. Originally launched as a fishing day for PTSD disabled veterans, the program expanded later to include a dedicated event for disabled children and their caregivers. Over time, these efforts evolved into a combined annual celebration that has attracted hundreds of participants and volunteers.
In 2026, organizers aim to welcome 1,000 guests in recognition of America’s 250th anniversary, under the patriotic theme, “Catch a Smile for the Red White and Blue.” The event will also continue its tradition of recognizing outstanding service through the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 12 Eagle Award, established in 2023 to honor individuals and organizations that have made exceptional contributions to veterans and military families. This year, the Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Jersey Shore Chapter will be recognized for 10 years of dedicated support to the disabled veteran community at Lake Julianna.
Guests can expect a full day of catch-and-release fishing, prizes, free food, and family-friendly activities designed to create lasting memories while celebrating service, resilience, and camaraderie.
