The long-awaited official opener for the striper season opens this upcoming Monday! The same regulations will remain in effect since the season left off with one fish between 28 to 31 inches. The good news is the bass are already around the island and have been actively chewing in the back bays on worms and artificials. Tog season got off to a tougher start due to some tough weather, but some successful trips inside the bays and out on the ocean reefs proved the fish were in place and starting to feed. Keep in mind that this weekend is the big family spring fishing festival at Belmont Lake State Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The lake has been stocked for the event, and while fishing the event, a freshwater fishing license is not needed! It’s a great way to get into the sport.
