FIRST SOUTH SHORE BLUEFISH
WEAKFISH, PORGIES AND BASS HIT PECONIC BAY
PLUS, FLUKE SEASON OPENS MAY 1
The striper bite continued throughout the Great South Bay going east this week with bunker being the main fuel behind the bite. Some of the first front runner gator blues hit the central South Shore on the ocean and bay side with bass mixed in. South Shore wrecks are continuing to host a steady tog bite and pick of cod. Keep in mind the season for tog closes at the end of the month but with that fluke season opens May 1 with the same regulations as last year. North Shore Harbors are also holding some stripers inside of them feeding on bunker and spearing. The bay between the forks (Peconic Bay) also came alive last week with good catches of porgies, some stripers and mixed in weakfish. Tune into this week’s reports for all the updates and fishing news from our correspondents as well.
