Montauk Fluking Improves Again

Once again, the Montauk fluke bite saw another nice improvement throughout the week. Some of the larger pool fish were between 6 and 9 pounds, and others achieved limits. The sea bass opener was decent in both the Sound and out at the end, with supplemental jumbo porgies making up for any lacking of them. Bluefish and stripers were stacked in the Gut, Race, and again, Montauk, feeding on a smorgasbord of bait, including sand eels, squid, and bunker. South Shore bay fluking was steady for the party boats, with a healthy dose of shorts to keepers being taken on natural and artificial boats. It looks like smooth sailing through the holiday for the wind, with some rain in the forecast. Enjoy the fireworks, and be safe!
