Jumbo Bassing Continues West & Free Freshwater Fishing Weekend
The big striper bite continued last week, with fish up to 50 pounds on the island’s western portion. Some steady day blitzes consisted of smaller fish on the opposite end in Montauk. The bottom fishing on the island’s eastern end also produced once again for tog, sea bass, porgies, and the occasional codfish. Night squid trips have also been a hit for the east end fleet. Tog have also remained shallow for most fishing the Sound – both the Long Island and Connecticut sides. And for those looking to dabble in the island’s freshwater fishing, remember this weekend is free for New York State, meaning no freshwater license will be required.
