This week’s Fisherman forecast opens on a reflective note as we pause to remember those lost on September 11. On the fisheries front, public hearings are scheduled from Maine through Virginia on Draft Addendum III to Amendment 7 for Atlantic striped bass, with New York hosting a hybrid session on September 17. In Montauk, the false albacore bite is red hot, highlighted by gear testing with the Okuma Tesoro. Jenni Ackerman takes us back with the Car Toppers in this Sunday’s open boat feature, while Capt. Al Lorenzetti shares tips for landing big fluke at the boat. Events include the Fred Golofaro Snapper Derby at East Islip Marina this Saturday, plus updates on the Dream Boat and Coastal Kayak Clash competitions. Around the Island, albies are showing from Moriches to Montauk, big fluke continue to hit live bait in the inlets, and surfcasters are finding stripers, blues, and Spanish mackerel in the mix from the North Shore to the South Fork.
