The influx of peanut bunker in the South Shore Bays is setting off a great fluke bite right now and mixed in with those fluke are some rather large ones up to 12 pounds! Rumors of weakfish have been popping up, but once again, the peanut bunker are the key to connecting right now. On top of that, some bigger bluefish have been in the middle of the Sound, albies have joined the mix in Montauk and the South Shore, and some bass are feeding again around the inlets and out east because of the baitfish movements. The tuna bite leveled out a bite, but you can still find some bluefin about 20 miles south of the East End, mixed in with some bigger yellowfins. All of the docks around the island are loaded with snappers, blowfish, and crabs for additional quick and easy fishing fun. Keep in mind sea bass bag limits have increased to six fish per person, and codfish season is now open. You can keep five fish per person on the cod at 23 inches or greater, and the season will run through April 30th.
