Best Bet For December 10-13 – Jersey Shore Surf Stripers
Unlike last Saturday and Sunday, weekend surfcasters should find the tides more favorable to dusk and dawn fishing in the days ahead. The moveable feast of birds, bass and bait continues to slide along the Jersey Shore with pockets of solid striper action popping up coastwide from the tip of Sandy Hook to Cape May. LBI saw a good shot of bird play at dawn this week, while the more northerly Ocean County beaches yielded a steady pick of good fish on Tuesday morning. In Atlantic and Cape May counties it’s been more about the bass at night out back by the bridges, bulkheads and sod banks, though solid tautog action is being found by the Cape May fleet (with a few porgies in the mix as well). While fewer boats in the water for boats out of North Jersey, the guys who are out tells us that there are more stripers on the move through Monmouth County as well, enough to provide hope for a solid beach bite through the rest of this year. Check this week’s video forecast for tips on maximizing that sand eel bite and get a look at what Monmouth University and the Berkeley Striper Club are doing to ensure that there are stripers in our future!
