The Colors Of January – White Perch & Blackfish

The New Jersey, Delaware Bay fishing forecast for the week is a colorful one for this third weekend in January of 2021, basically blackfish and white perch. Sure, a striper or two has been caught out front along the front beaches at the Jersey Shore, as has the first reported keeper of the year – a 12-pounder taping out at 28 inches – reported from Island Beach. But for those looking to get in on a more consistent bite it’s looking like a headboat trip for tautog may be your best bet in the days ahead, perhaps soaking some bloodworms along the salt rivers and creeks throughout the region for tasty white perch. In this week’s video forecast hop aboard The Gambler out of Point Pleasant with The Fisherman’s Jim Hutchinson as he collects a few tips from the captain about prospecting for new blackfish locations. Plus, we have a summary from last week’s New Jersey Marine Fisheries Council meeting with updates on cobia, black sea bass, fluke, stripers and the latest on a few recent bunker kills reported throughout the region.
