55-Pound Raritan Striper & More on the Way!

Our lead image in this week’s video forecast for the New Jersey, Delaware Bay region is of a 55-pound striped bass mojo’d earlier this week aboard the Little Hawk on Raritan Bay. Even better, a slug of good fish is moving up the beaches of Cape May and Atlantic County to start the week, meaning action along the entire Jersey Shore (and the front side beaches) is just starting to get interesting. Giant bluefin tuna have been the buzz in the past two weeks, and we have a rundown on another 1,800 pounds of bluefin landed since our last report; regrettably NOAA Fisheries has shut down the recreational season for “large medium” and “giants” over 73 inches, but it’s just the start as more “keeper” class tuna should be arriving in the coming days. The drum bite is catching fire in South Jersey, weakfish are appearing throughout the back bays, and sea bass finally kicks off again on Saturday, May 15. Get exclusive details in advance of the weekend action with the full report from The Fisherman’s Jim Hutchinson on location with a new tackle shop in Ocean County.
