Memorial Day Fishing Forecast For NJ/DE Bay Region

Plenty of options as we head into the Memorial Day weekend! Whether you say “fluke” or “flounder” all seasons are open – north and south – and there are fish to be had in the channels, flats, and out along the beach and jetties. In fact, we may have our first Dream Boat Fishing Challenge entry coming by way of Sandy Hook Channel! Monster black drum are in Delaware Bay and out along some of the Jersey Shore beaches as well including Atlantic City and Brigantine – should be found in some of the noted hotspots in Great Bay and Little Egg Harbor if you want to anchor up with a bushel of clams. It’s a great time of year to find weakies under the lights in the south, central and north, especially around the moon tides this week. Slot size stripers out back along the sedges throughout the state, with bigger fish stretched out across the front beaches hitting clams in the surf, chasing bunker and whacking plugs and bunker chunks. If the family has you logging some summer beach time this weekend bring a rod and a plug bag! Monster stripers up along the Monmouth County coast and throughout Raritan Bay – livelining, spooning, mojos, plugging – should break up open up on top as well soon, especially at times of westerly breezes when those bunker are nosing up into the wind. Meanwhile the local head boats are fishing wide open for black sea bass at this time with plenty of limit catches along the rail. Be sure to take a moment too for the Memorial Day holiday to say a prayer for the fallen heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect and preserve this great nation!
